"Donald Daw of Chattaroy, WA believes we should rethink the second amendment and actually manages to come up with a surprisingly good metaphor: 'Imagine a frightening new drug hitting the streets. The death rate is staggering. Republicans and Democrats make a rare joint effort to pass laws making the drug illegal.' Sigh. Like so many of his anti brethren he is trying to present a cost-benefit analysis without looking at the benefits. The correct presentation of this metaphor would go along the lines of . . ." ... |

| Imagine an out of control lawless government working to enslave all members of its citizens. What and who will protect us? Wait, we have that government now, and its growing. |

Mr. Daw ignores the obvious corollary in his analogy. I.e. "what if his "drug", properly formulated and administered by trained personnel, was a surefire cure to a rising pandemic ? Firearms - like many other devices of modern civilization, are merely "tools", to be employed as the user directs.
BTW, many of the most popular and abused "street drugs" also serve admirably in clinical situations to relieve pain and improve the quality of life for patients. Are we to deny the majority the benefits because of the actions of a minority ? >MW66 |
